Reform Support Unit (RSU) has been established in Public Health and Engineering Department, Patna to execute/implement the projects supported by DFID-SWASTH in the state of Bihar. Till now Schemes of 82 crores has been taken up under FA plan of DFID-SWASTHprogramme, to assist PHED in the field of Water supply and Sanitation. This cell has been empowered by 2 officers of Department with 6 Specialists/ Consultants to effectively monitor the progress of the ongoing projects.

1. Solar Mini Water Supply Scheme:
Phase I (2012-13)
A total of 100 units of Solar Based Mini Water Supply Scheme is being implemented in 4 blocks of Gaya district.38 no. has been completed.
Phase II (2013-14)
A total of 100 Units of Solar Based Mini Water Supply Scheme is to be executed in 3 districts of Bihar (Jehanabad- 35 Units, Kaimur- 30 Units, and Nawada-35 Units)
2. Rural Water Supply Scheme: This Scheme is going to be implemented in 5 districts (Gaya, Purnea, West Champaran, Kishanganj and Nalanda)
3. Model School WATSAN Complexes:
Phase I (2012-2013)
A total of 100 Units of Model School WATSAN Complexes is under construction in 10 districts of Bihar. 43 has been completed.
Phase II (2013-2014)
A total of 100 Units of Model School WATSAN Complexes is to be constructed in 10 districts of Bihar.
Phase III (2014-2015)
A total of 100 Units of Model School WATSAN Complexes is going to be constructed in 3 districts of Bihar. Buxar, Begusarai & Bhagalpur are situated at bank of river Ganges.
4. Blanket Testing: This Project is being implemented in 22 districts of Bihar covering a total number of 372295 Water Sources out of 22 districts 14 are arsenic affected and 8 are fluoride affected.
5. Mobile Water Quality Testing Laboratories: Under this scheme all the four Zones of PHED viz: Patna, Bhagalpur, Muzafferpur and Purneaare provided with mobile Water Quality Testing Labs targeting 125 samples of water sources/ Month / vehicle.
6. District Water Quality Labs Strengthening: Under this scheme all the 38 district water quality testing labs have been strengthened by providing lab equipments and chemicals.
7. Smart Water System and IVRS for Department: Under this scheme a web based application has been created through which the maintenance of the hand pumps was automated through SMS to Technicians and the beneficiaries.It was piloted in one Block. Now IVRS system for the department is under process of implementation.
8. Community Led Total Sanitation: Under this activity Community led Total Sanitation approach, B-TAST team has piloted 1 ODF (Open Defecation Free) Block each in 4 districts ( Jalalgarh- Purnea, Chanpatia- west Champaran, Bodhgaya- Gaya &Khushrupur- Patna) of Bihar.
This approach is going to be scaled up in 6 more districts (Buxar, Begusarai, Bhagalpur, Madhubani, Araria&Jamui).
